I asked why I was stopped and they said their automated surveillance had picked up my outsize toilet paper in the trolly. When I pointed out that many other (white) customers had outsize in their trolley, why did surveillance pick up me, a visible minority. They refused to answer, and I do not shop there any more.
Did the automated surveillance pick me out on my individual merits or as a racial minority associated with crime? It is easy to programme bigotry into an algorithm than human rights. That is the challenge of an automated society if we want to avoid a Uyghurs Surveillance state!
